New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman extended basic customs duty exemption on imports of components and goods required for nuclear power projects till 2035.
The extension will cover all nuclear plants irrespective of capacity, which means small reactors and small modular reactors would also stand to benefit.
India is targeting 22 GW nuclear capacity by 2032, and 100 GW by 2047, up from 8.8 GW currently. Exemptions may include machinery and materials, control rods and burnable absorber rods, and control and protector absorber rods.
“These exemptions have been part of a long-term policy to encourage clean energy transition,” said Prasenjit Pal, former CEO, NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Ltd.
