My Review and Experience with Hotel Mazarine

I stayed at Mazarine Hotel, Kalpetta, Wayanad, during the first week of January 2026, and it turned out to be one of the finest hotel experiences I have had – comparable to, and in some aspects exceeding, many 5-star hotels.

We were on a road trip from Kochi to Bangalore and spent a few days there with our son, who recently relocated there for work. Each day, we stayed in a different hotel in Bangalore since we were planning to visit Bangalore often and wanted to find out the best place to stay during our future visits. I will share my review of other hotels we stayed in separate reviews.

On our return journey to Kochi, we chose the scenic route via Mysore – Wayanad – Calicut. We reached Wayanad close to midnight and decided to stop for a few hours of rest before continuing our drive.

At around 11:10 PM, we booked the Mazarine Hotel through Agoda without spending much time reviewing the details, as our only requirement was a comfortable place to sleep for a few hours. The photos and description on Agoda did not fully convey that this was, in fact, a premium luxury hotel. We made the booking, thinking it was a mediocre lodge.

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised, as the hotel exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Some highlights of our stay are outlined below:

1. This is not a lodge, as we initially assumed, but a luxury hotel offering modern, premium amenities.

2. The entire property is exceptionally clean and well-maintained. Even the wastebins are very premium with a copper metallic finish

3. The quality of switches, lighting, furniture, and fittings is premium and comparable to, or better than, many five-star hotels.

4. The hotel features extensive automation, including ambient lighting in corridors and common areas that activates as you move.

5. A wide range of high-quality toiletries is provided, on par with four- and five-star hotels.

6. The breakfast was excellent, with a good variety of items, all of which were delicious. My wife, who usually skips breakfast while traveling, thoroughly enjoyed it.

7. Significant investment has clearly gone into the interiors, with remarkable attention to detail. High-end materials and fittings are used throughout. Features such as touchscreen bedroom lighting, master switches, motion-sensor bathroom lights, and even bathrobes add to the luxury experience.

8. The staff strike a rare balance between being highly professional and genuinely friendly.

9. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and larger than those in most hotels, resulting in a very restful sleep. We even postponed our early-morning departure as a result.

10. The property includes a swimming pool and a gym, although we did not use them during our short stay.

11. The hotel is conveniently located close to the town, with shops nearby and easy accessibility.

12. There is an excellent restaurant within the premises operated by *Alibaba and 41 Dishes*, one of our favorite restaurants in Kochi. Even the breakfast service is managed by them.

Although our initial plan was to stay for just a few hours, we ended up extending our stay, enjoying the excellent breakfast, and fully appreciating the comfort and luxury the hotel offers.

Areas for Improvement – Hotel Mazarine

There was nothing significant to complain about; however, a few minor points are worth mentioning:

1. The name listed as mazarine hotels and resorts llp on booking platforms may not create the right first impression. Using the registered company name, including “LLP” and without capitalization, makes the property appear like a small lodge rather than a premium hotel.

2. The property is clearly a luxury hotel rather than a resort, and the use of the word “resort” in the name may be slightly misleading.

3. Breakfast begins at 8:00 AM, which is later than most luxury hotels, where breakfast typically starts by 7:00 AM.

Overall, Mazarine Hotel is an outstanding property that delivers a truly premium experience, and it was a delightful and unexpected highlight of our journey. This was probably the first time my wife gave 10 out of 10 for any hotel we ever stayed.
